John Jackson, Casting Director

John Jackson began his exemplary career as an acclaimed Casting Director in the film and television industry as an actor in Los Angeles. He received a Bachelor of the Arts in Theatre from Arizona State University, with further training at the celebrated American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. In Los Angeles, John studied with renowned acting teachers Stella Adler, Jose Quintero, and Paul Blake, and at the comedy powerhouse, The Groundling’s Theatre. Working under the professional name John Durbin, he appeared in a combination of over one hundred films, television movies, television series, and plays. Returning to his home in Iowa, John began working with filmmaker Alexander Payne as a Casting Director. The two have collaborated on seven completed feature films: Sideways, AboutSchmidt, Election, Citizen Ruth, The Descendants, Nebraska, and Downsizing. As teacher, mentor, and speaker, John has led workshops and classes for his alma mater Arizona State University, The Screen Actors Guild Conservatory, Sunscreen Film Festival, Lipscomb University, University of Tampa, and Iowa Western Community College. In 2019, John was accepted into the MFA in Writing program offered by the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and will graduate in July of 2021. John is currently traveling and researching his first manuscript, while also serving as Casting Consultant on the feature film The Villains.
