Biography
 
Susan Cartsonis was named one of the top five grossing producers of the year by The Hollywood Reporter for What Women Want—the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time (at the time of its release) and number two to this day—and for Where the Heart Is. She has produced a number of young adult studio hits including Aquamarine, which was shot in Queensland, Australia and which completed post in Sydney, Australia. Other recent movies she has produced include the Resonate/Netflix summer 2020 hit, Feel the Beat starring Sofia Carson, the highly rated Disney hit, Descendants 3 summer of 2019, Freaky Friday the Musical for Disney summer 2018, Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, a Netflix Original, which premiered at Sundance 2017, the teen hit The DUFF in 2016, Beastly, Middle School, Invisible Sister, and No Reservations. Carrie Pilby, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2016, was produced with Resonate partners Brent Emery and Suzanne Farwell. Cartsonis was an executive at 20th Century Fox for nearly a decade, rising from script reader to Senior VP of Production. At Fox, the over twenty films she supervised include Nell, French Kiss, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, For the Boys, Dying Young, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. At Fox Susan also supervised talent deals such as The Farrelly Brothers, Geena Davis, Richard Gere, and Johnny Depp. Cartsonis is a member of the Motion Picture Academy, the Television Academy and the Producer’s Guild, and serves on the board of the Meryl Streep-founded, Writer’s Lab, funded by Nicole Kidman and Oprah Winfrey, the board of the non-profit screenwriter’s workshop, Cinestory, and teaches producing at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. An ASU alum, she has generously supported and acted as an Instructor for the “Networking & The Trades” module for ASU Film Spark’s Film & TV Career Boot Camp.
